Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology Request for Proposals for Curriculum Development Services

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION FOR DENTAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY
The Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology (Foundation) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The purpose of the Foundation is to advance the profession of dental laboratory technology by addressing industry driven needs and providing solutions that are relevant and accessible to dental technicians and other members of the dental team. For additional information about the Foundation and its program, visit www.dentallabfoundation.org.

HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION
The Foundation was incorporated in 2008 and is committed to advocating and raising awareness for the necessity of dental laboratory technology education for dental laboratory technicians and other effected members of the dental team.

To date, the Foundation has awarded over $90,000.00 in scholarships to dental technicians striving to obtain their CDT designation. The Foundation has also awarded over $150,000.00 in grants to dental technology schools to assist them with funding, innovation in teaching methodology, technology enhancement and upgrading access to relevant course training materials. Over 500 individual Certified Dental Technicians, over 700 dental laboratories and countless manufacturers, suppliers and speakers routinely support the Foundation.

Since its initial launch, the Foundation has worked to address the challenges our industry is facing related to education and has worked hard to create opportunities for current and future dental technicians.

For additional information about the Foundation and its program, visit www.dentallabfoundation.org.

MISSION The Foundation’s Mission is to advocate for and raise awareness for the necessity of dental laboratory technology education for dental technicians and other effected members of the dental team.

NEED FOR ONLINE COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATION
Finding qualified technicians continues to be one of the greatest challenges within the dental laboratory profession. The Foundation Trust wholly supports formal dental laboratory education and encourages those interested in working within the profession to consider a formal educational program. However, for technicians working on the job, obtaining access to high quality comprehensive theoretical knowledge in the profession can be a challenge.

The Foundation launched its Foundation Learning Library at www.dentallabfoundation.org/courses. in 2016 and has over 50 courses available. The Foundation recognizes that there is still a need for a comprehensive program that focuses on teaching core knowledge based competencies for current and future technicians.

The belief is that a program of this nature would primarily serve workforce needs in the industry. It is intended that a program of this nature would consist of 11 initial courses. Each course would be broken into smaller modules to help learners prioritize the information, retain the information better and allow for easier movement through the programs. It is the intent of the Foundation that once the initial 11 courses are launched, additional specialty specific courses will be created as well.

The first 11 courses are shown below:
  • Introduction to Dental Laboratory Technology
  • Dental and DLT History
  • Regulations and Scope of Practice
  • Safe Working Practices
  • Communication Strategies
  • Professional Ethics
  • Tooth Morphology and Physiology
  • Occlusion and Basic Functions
  • Science of Dental Materials
  • Dental Laboratory Equipment
  • Introduction to CAD/CAM
The Foundation has spent considerable time and resources creating the content to be distributed within each course and will provide these additional details to interested parties upon receipt of a signed non-disclosure agreement (included with this request for proposal).

To obtain a detailed breakdown of the content to be delivered within each course, please return a signed non-disclosure agreement to the parties indicated in this proposal in advance of the deadline.
