NBC Digital Workflow Certification Survey - Action Needed
The National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology (NBC) is working on developing a new certification program to establish a standard that demonstrates a level of knowledge and skills related to digital workflow. NBC has long been called on to address the needs for standards in digital dental technology and is continuing to work to incorporate the use of digital technologies into its existing testing and certification programs. However, even with these changes to the existing examinations, NBC believes the demand and the need still exist to develop a standards program specific to the digital workflow. The first step in the process of developing a certification program is to perform a Job Task Analysis. A Job Task Analysis is an essential step when identifying the primary duties and tasks performed by an individual in a specific profession. It provides a means to assess the critical knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) needed to safely and effectively perform the job, in this case, a digital dental laboratory technician. Identifying the core responsibilities and functions is the first step toward establishing certification requirements to ensure that those who achieve certification have the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for competent practice.
Most importantly, results from this survey will be used to validate the examination blueprint and other certification requirements for this new program within the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology's suite of assessments.
NBC has partnered with the Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology, who are sponsoring the development of the Job Task Analysis. NBC thanks the Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology for their support in developing this new certification program.
